Sally

My names Sally, I am married with 2 children and a husband who works very hard. Up until 5 years ago I held down a very important job working at a hospital as a theatre sister. I now have Parkinsons and cannot walk at all. I also have great difficulty with my speech and my motor skills and can therefore no longer work.

I attend both an IT course and an Art & Craft course with Care First. These courses have helped me with my motor skills and have made me think and feel that I can still do things. Though most importantly the courses and people have made me feel valued and alive.

Carl

My names Carl. I have learning difficulties and went to a special school because I found it really difficult to read and write. I felt embarrassed and alone but I really wanted to learn without people telling me I was stupid.

My social worker told me about the courses offered by Care First and assured me they would help. The tutors and support staff look after me and show me other ways that I can learn and do things. I now attend a range of courses from 'Life & Social skills' to 'IT' and I am learning new things every day. I have lots of friends and no longer feel stupid. Care First are my friends and help me feel good.

Sam

I know who I am now! I could not remember before.

My name is Sam I have a voice box on my wheel chair so I can talk to people and ask for things that I need. At least I am alive, my family are not. I was all alone and never thought I would be able to attend a course and have a life.

I now have lots of friends and through Care First I have re-gained skills and learnt new one's... whilst also having fun. Before I wanted to hide away as I felt depressed but now I have lots to do and no time to feel sorry for myself. I am really glad I joined the Care First courses. They have helped me think and some of my memory has returned which is really good.
