Mini Enterprise skills
This area aims to help the individual put forward ideas, assess them, and plan what they are going to do. This develops communication and listening skills for the participants and also encourages working together in a team and respecting others. Once the ideas have been put into a plan, individuals will start to work on other aspects such as design, producing the items and presenting them. Making the items will help develop co-ordination skills, communication and problem solving skills. The individuals will then develop ways of promoting and selling the products that they have made. The activities may revolve around a particular theme such as Christmas products, making products for the garden, or creating tableware decorations. |

Using Community Facilities
Developing the skills to go out and visit places, builds confidence and independence. By selecting a topic such as visiting the cinema in the evening, individuals are helped to plan what they are going to do and what things they need to consider: what films do they like, when can they go to the cinema, how might they get there, how much will it cost and who do they want to go with.
Once the plans have been worked through, individuals will be helped and encouraged to make the visits, and then review how they went. This will help them to learn what works and what doesn’t and develops confidence to do more things on their own. The process recognizes the need for individuals to take considered risks and explore new things.
The types of community activities that the individual can try may include: arranging and taking a holiday, visiting the museum, cinema or theatre, shopping, going to a church or mosque, visiting a sporting event and trip to the garden centre. |
